What was your major at Butler? Have you pursued any graduate degrees post-Butler?
I graduated with a BA in International Business from Butler and am yet to pursue an additional degree, but it is a serious consideration at this point in time.
Where are you currently working? Where have you worked before now?
My current role is the Global Aftermarket Programs and Revenue Analyst at Allison Transmission. I manage the forecasting, pricing and warranty structure, and rebate program approvals for all global service parts and remanufactured products by region for the company. My prior position and first role out of college was as an outside sales representative at a sales/marketing firm here in Indianapolis selling electronics and semiconductors for global manufacturers B2B in the Midwest.
Have you worked or traveled internationally since graduation? If yes, where? If not, do you anticipate going abroad in the future?
I have traveled internationally since graduation to England, Scotland, and Ireland. I was scheduled to travel to Thailand and the Netherlands for work as well but COVID limited those opportunities. In my current role I have opportunities to travel to Hong Kong, Budapest Hungary, Dubai (UAE), Sao Paolo Brazil, and the Netherlands (Rotterdam) for business.
What advice would you give an IB major who is not sure about what they want to do with their major after graduation?
My advice would be to gain a variety of experiences in multiple industries now. Manufacturing, tech start up’s, non-profits, financial services, and even government policy positions offer an enormous amount of opportunity to IB majors but are incredibly different. Find which segment suits your passion and then pursue it, there are always job opportunities. Networking is critical to this process, and the best way to learn is through experiences and internships.
Are there any skills (soft skills, language skills, communications, etc.) that you would advise that IB majors prioritize while still in school?
IB majors should prioritize interview skills, pay negotiation, and cultural awareness. All three of these elements are critical immediately following graduation and have continued to be important as I’ve progressed through my career. Faculty and staff are hands down the best resource for these skills, and I encourage undergraduate IB majors to ask questions regarding these topics and remain acutely aware of their importance.
