What was your major at Butler? Have you pursued any graduate degrees post-Butler?
I have a Bachelor’s Science degree in International Business and Management Information Systems from Butler. I have not pursued any graduate degrees post Butler, but this is not out of the question for my future plans.
Where are you currently working? Where have you worked before now?
I am currently working for a Global Consulting Company called Protiviti as an IT Internal Auditor here in Indianapolis, IN. Previously, I Interned for a Staffing and Recruiting Company called NCW as a Recruiter and a Third-Party Logistics Company called Hoosier Logistics as an Operations Analyst. Both jobs were in Indianapolis, IN.
Have you worked or traveled internationally since graduation? If yes, where? If not, do you anticipate going abroad in the future?
I have not worked Internationally since post grad, but I have traveled! I took a career break and traveled to Neckarzimmern, Baden-Württemberg, Germany and Munich, Germany for 3 weeks. I am currently in the works to plan another career break travel journey to Japan.
What advice would you give an IB major who is not sure about what they want to do with their major after graduation?
The advice I would give to an IB Major is try to not get so hung up on finding a job that’s just about being International to fit your major. Instead look inwards to yourself about your unique passions and then try to pursue a company that fits those one off unique passions. International business is a very large and not narrow industry. By tying other things you love to do with that industry is a sure way to find a happy match! For example if your personality is really caring and you love to service others try looking into non profit companies or if you love babysitting or caretaking after kids look into companies like UNICEF. There are plenty of International companies with an exact mission so try to find what your mission in life is and really match with the company.
Are there any skills (soft skills, language skills, communications, etc.) that you would advise that IB majors prioritize while still in school?
Skills I would advise IB Majors to prioritize is looking into what made you pick IB in the first place and building your skills alongside that. Personally for me I fell in love with learning about many cultures, therefore I went to several club events that celebrated different cultures. Finding ways to build skills is fun, for me I love watching International movies and tv series, so this was a fun way to learn lots of different languages, and cultural everyday nuances. I also advise incorporating any skills learned into the topic you’re interested in. I find topics such as history fun and incorporating that into a business context really helped me understand more why the international economies are where they are now.
