What was your major at Butler? Have you pursued any graduate degrees post-Butler?
My majors at Butler were International Business and Marketing
Where are you currently working? Where have you worked before now?
I am currently working at Eli Lilly and Company here in Indianapolis within the Market Access and Strategy Department. This is my first job post-grad, but so far it has been an amazing experience!
Have you worked or traveled internationally since graduation? If yes, where? If not, do you anticipate going abroad in the future?
While I have only been working for a few short months I have not gotten to travel for work, however I have traveled to the Middle East for personal travel!
What advice would you give an IB major who is not sure about what they want to do with their major after graduation?
International Business is such an incredible major because it truly teaches you HOW to think about business problems. This will set you up for success to do just about anything. Do not get caught up in finding the job with the perfect title or role, instead stay focused on what the role, company, and industry has to offer for you both now and in the future. You may not work internationally in your first role, but you can certainly add working internationally to your career plan and make that happen in the future. Just in the same way you choose a college, choose a company. You did not choose a school for one factor, but instead looked at location, majors, dorms, involvement opportunities, sports, and more. When you go to choose a company to start your career, do the same and look at location, growth potential, benefits, further education opportunities, etc.
Are there any skills (soft skills, language skills, communications, etc.) that you would advise that IB majors prioritize while still in school?
The way you communicate with others is so important- especially if they do not have the same culture as you. Focus on your communication, networking, and adaptability skills at Butler to set you apart at the start of your career. Don’t overlook the small things because at the end of the day they may just be the skill that sets you apart from your peers!
