I have spent my entire career in logistics and have enjoyed every moment of it. I started in a sales position at Echo Global Logistics before making the change to the shipper side as a business analyst at True Value. I was then promoted to leadership positions in both domestic and international logistics. In May of 2021, I moved to Pittsburgh and joined United States Steel Corporation as a Manager of Logistics Services where I have a mix of domestic and international responsibilities. I enjoy the challenge of working in logistics and providing data-driven solutions to global logistics problems.
Have you worked or traveled internationally since graduation? If yes, where? If not, do you anticipate going abroad in the future?
have visited seven countries for leisure since graduating from Butler in 2016. I was in the process of booking business travel to China, India, Thailand, and Vietnam early in 2020 when I was promoted to Manager - International Logistics & Trade Compliance for True Value. My travel plans were canceled due to COVID-19. I was looking forward to traveling overseas to meet with my direct report in Shanghai, our steamship line partners, and tour several ports. Today, I travel domestically for work but hope to have international opportunities in the future.
What advice would you give an IB major who is not sure about what they want to do with their major after graduation?
Do not panic! It is common to change jobs or career paths after graduation. Take advantage of internship opportunities while at Butler. Butler has great resources to help land internships with reputable companies across many industries. Internships are a fantastic way to narrow down your career interests.
Are there any skills (soft skills, language skills, communications, etc.) that you would advise that IB majors prioritize while still in school?
It really depends on your career interests. The most talented business professionals I have worked with have excellent soft skills, financial acumen, and communicate effectively. These are great skills to prioritize along with leading group projects, networking, and time-management. You must be able to communicate examples of these skills during job interviews.
